This is the glow of\nthe sunset reflected off of the Freedom Tower located at One World Trade Center\nin Manhattan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"931\" height=\"535\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2017-0921-NYC-022.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2045\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2017-0921-NYC-022.jpg 931w, https:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2017-0921-NYC-022-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2017-0921-NYC-022-768x441.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2017-0921-NYC-022-624x359.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 931px) 100vw, 931px\" \/><figcaption>View of the Freedom Tower and the southern tip of Manhattan from Governors Island.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the bluff overlooking Raritan Bay from Morgan, you can\nsee the tallest Manhattan buildings looming above Staten Island.&nbsp; According to Al, and this only started with the\nbuilding of the Freedom Tower which replaced the twin towers of the World Trade\nCenter, twice a year the glow from the Freedom Tower washes over Morgan.&nbsp; I find this kind of poetic since the glow also\nbathes the Morgan Family Cemetery and especially the three of its permanent residents\nwho were in the Revolutionary War.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/sample-page\/revolutionary-war-times\/reconnaissance-for-general-washington\/\">Captain James Morgan, Sr.<\/a> and his son<a href=\"http:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/sample-page\/morgan-family\/capture-of-james-morgan-jr\/\"> James Morgan, Jr.<\/a> were both intimately involved with what we know as the Revolutionary War in their own back yard.\u00a0 You can learn more about their lives in other sections of this web site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"931\" height=\"337\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Lieutenant-Nicholas-Morgan.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2044\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Lieutenant-Nicholas-Morgan.jpg 931w, https:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Lieutenant-Nicholas-Morgan-300x109.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Lieutenant-Nicholas-Morgan-768x278.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Lieutenant-Nicholas-Morgan-624x226.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 931px) 100vw, 931px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is particularly appropriate is when the light from the Freedom Tower shines over the final resting place of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/sample-page\/morgan-family\/morgan-memorial-lieutenant-nicholas-morgan\/\">Lieutenant Nicholas Morgan<\/a>, the third Morgan Family member buried in the cemetery.\u00a0 Nicholas, the son of James, Sr. and older brother of James, Jr., was actually <a href=\"http:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/sample-page\/morgan-family\/death-of-lieutenant-nicholas-morgan\/\">killed while on duty<\/a> in the Morgan area during the Revolutionary War at age 27.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are other veterans of other American wars buried in\nthe Morgan Family Cemetery as well as many veterans buried in the other\ncemetery in Morgan, Christ Church Cemetery (including my father). Nicholas,\nhowever, was the only one I know of who died in Morgan during the war he was\npart of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"226\" height=\"634\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Freedom-Tower-Narrow.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2046\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Freedom-Tower-Narrow.jpg 226w, https:\/\/www.morgan-nj.org\/blog\/contentdir\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Freedom-Tower-Narrow-107x300.jpg 107w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 226px) 100vw, 226px\" \/><figcaption>View of the Freedom Tower showing the multifaceted surfaces which cast the Freedom Glow over Morgan, New Jersey twice a year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Al, he was painting his bedroom the first time\nhe had \u201cseen the light\u201d and it came as a shock to him.&nbsp; He had never heard about the phenomena and fleetingly\nthought Manhattan was under attack again as it had been on September 11, 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al says the glow happens twice a year.&nbsp; This photo shows it on May 15, 2020 from the\nbluffs of Morgan overlooking Raritan Bay (long ago known as Morgan Heights).&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m surmising the next time the sun will reflect off the shiny\nwalls of the Freedom Tower onto Morgan will be when the earth is on the other\nside of the summer solstice.&nbsp; If May 15\nis 36 calendar days before the summer solstice, likely the Freedom Glow will\nagain appear over the bluffs of Morgan 36 or so calendar days after the summer\nsolstice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That makes the second date in 2020 to be July 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let us know if this is when it actually happens!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Originally posted on May,\n30, 2020.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My childhood neighbor Al posted this image on Facebook recently showing something I had never seen nor had heard of before.
