Abstract of the Will of Charles Morgan<\/p><\/div>\n

The first member of the Morgan family, the family after which Morgan, NJ is named, to come to the new world was <\/span>Charles Morgan<\/a>.\u00a0 He was also the first one named Charles \u2013 <\/span>there were many named Charles to follow<\/a>!\u00a0 He lived in Gravesend, New York which is on the other side of Raritan Bay from where his descendants would eventually settle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Below is the abstract of the 1668 will of Charles Morgan from the book: Abstracts of Wills on File in the Surrogate\u2019s Office, City of New York. Volume I.\u00a0 1665 \u2013 1707<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Charles Morgan, Gravesend. Makes wife Katharine sole executrix. Leaves to son Charles the lot or Plantations recorded to him in the Towne Books of Gravesend. To my other three sons, Thomas, John, and Daniel, the land and Plantation I now live on, and the barn that was formerly Slynihah Loras. His wife is to have the use of the said premises, “to dwell in soe long as shee shall keepe herself a widow. All this is my mynde and will soe to be.” Mentions daughters Mary, Rachel, and Susannah.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dated “Thirteenth day of 7th month 1668.” Witness Wm. Goulding, Sam’l Spicer. Proved Oct. 7, 1668. Inventory mentions a very large number of articles of domestic use, and 6 acres of wheat, 5 acres corn, 4 acres Oats, 2 acres Rye, 7 acres Peas.<\/em><\/p>\n
