Reference to the Will of Charles Morgan, III<\/p><\/div>\n

Before my school friend Joe found the <\/span>deed to the original Morgan Family property<\/a> located on the north side of Cheesequake Creek and the west side of Raritan Bay which we know today as Morgan, NJ, I had help from another source regarding which Morgan probably bought the property.\u00a0 This person was Mr. Blair Case, the great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandson of the purchaser, Charles Morgan III.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also according to Mr. Case, Charles, Sr. (his great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather) originally settled in Gravesend, New Amsterdam (present day Brooklyn, New York) sometime around 1641.\u00a0 Charles Morgan, Jr. and family settled in Middletown, NJ sometime around 1698.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, here is something I encountered while surfing the internet.\u00a0 I believe it is a record of the will of the Charles Morgan III<\/a> and references the original purchase of the land we know today as Morgan, NJ!<\/p>\n

1749-50. Jan 6. Morgan, Charles of Middlesex Co., yeoman; will of.
\n<\/em>Children \u2013 Thomas, Charles, William, Danniel, James, Mary, Abigail, Sarah.
\n<\/em>Plantation purchased of George Lesley, where Yose Soey formerly lived, on Cheasquake Creek.
\n<\/em>Executors \u2013 sons William and Danniel and brother-in-law Seth Ellison.
\n<\/em>Witnesses \u2013 John Bowne, Samuel Ellison. John Night.
\n<\/em>Proved April 10, 1750. Lib. E, p. 380.<\/em><\/p>\n

This mentions someone named \u201cYose Soey\u201d.\u00a0 According to other sources, \u201cYose\u201d is an alias for \u201cJoost\u201d, \u201cJose\u201d, \u201cJoseph\u201d, etc.\u00a0 It is hard to follow how he fits in with the Morgan Family but obviously he knew them!\u00a0 Guess this is also something we\u2019ll figure out some day.<\/p>\n

He is mentioned here<\/a> (search for \u201cMorgan\u201d) and her<\/span><\/a>e<\/a> (search for \u201cMorgan\u201d). With such an unusual name, I wonder if the last name \u201cSoey\u201d might have anything to do with the two hills in Morgan we used to call \u201cBig Suey\u201d and \u201cLittle Suey\u201d?<\/span><\/p>\n
