I see there are not too many recent additions to this site but I just found it. I have written my autobiography and include many memories about Morgan. I lived there entirely throughout my growing up years. First on 229 9th St and then on 22 Dolan Ave off Ernston Rd. At the 9th Street location when we were putting in sewer system the backhoe uprooted a five inch shell from the Gillespie explosion. I found another one at our Dolan Ave location. Raritan Arsenal came to see if it was live, and when it was proven to be a dud, the soldier strapped it on the back of his jeep, put high explosives signs all around it and gave me a ride down the street. Directly behind the Dolan Ave House were the ruins of one of the Gillespie buildings on Hoffman Ave. I used to play in there a lot.
Regarding the Robert E Lee Inn, the school bus stopped there to pick up students for Jesse Selover School. To the left of the Robt E Lee were some small beach homes. Karen Sharp and her sister Barbara lived there. I took Karen on my first ever date to Perth Amboy to see Damn Yankees. Overlooking Raritan Bay on Bay Street, I helped Col. Bowen Lawrence build wooden boats in his garage three different winters. Played little league baseball for Connie’s Bar. I Remember fondly the Stewarts Root Beer Stand on route 35.

Thanks for your comment! Bowen Lawrence lived two houses down the street from me. Kids on the street used to climb in the two boats that he had outside his garage. Not sure if he ever knew that. I didn’t know he was ever in the military and only knew him as Mr. Lawrence. Do you have more info on that? He was pretty old when I knew him and I also recall he had a son out west, I’m recalling Wyoming? I watched him shoot golf balls off the cliff into the bay a few times.
